The Cost of Loyalty
I recently watched A24’s The Smashing Machine, and while some critics framed Mark Kerr’s story through the lens of a "loser," I saw something much more relevant to our daily lives.
I didn’t see a loser. I saw the dangerous impact of a toxic relationship.
The character of Mark Kerr and his girlfriend were destructive to one another. It was a sobering reminder that regardless of the potential you have—or I have—a bad relationship will always have a negative impact on that potential.
The most striking part? He was in close proximity to healthy, supportive friends, yet he chose to protect the toxic relationship over the healthy ones.
The Lesson: You can be inches away from the right people, but if you are anchored to the wrong ones, you will stay stationary. Misplaced loyalty is a high price to pay for a capped future.
Don't protect the relationships that are preventing your growth.
